Music Director Ravi passes away

Film music director Bombay Ravi (Ravishankar Sharma, 86) who has given a handful of wonderful songs to Malayalam has passed away. Ravi has done music for nearly 250 films spread across various languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Hindi. Ravi, who passed away at the Bombay Hospital, in south Mumbai, has been udnergoing treatment from February 29. He had suffered two heart attacks after being admitted to the hosptial. His funeral will be held Friday. He made his debut Malayalam debut through the song 'Manjal prasadavum nettiyil charthi' in 'Naghashathangal'. He then went on to present Malayalees with some very melodious songs. His major musical contributions in several movies including Vysali, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Sargam, Gazal, Theertham, Paadheyam and Parinayam.

  1. he man, who was completely ignored and given a cold shoulder by Bollywood was accorded the warmest welcome by the Malayalam film industry, where he went on to win the hearts of millions of fans and created more than two decades of magical music, rooted in melody.

    Even though the Hindi film industry may be content with celebrating the likes of RD Burman, Ravi Shankar Sharma, who was known as "Bombay RAVI" will forever be celebrated down South.

    It's time you journos brushed up your awareness of Indian film music, not just Hindi!
